The Ome Kaido runs west from Edo across the hilly plateau that makes up most of Musashi province. The road ends at Ome, a small town on the upper reaches of the Tama river. Though it is not very large, Ome is an important town to the Edo government, since it is the site of several rich iron mines. The iron mined here is smelted into steel, then fashioned into swords and armor for the Shogun's soldiers.
