The Japan America Society of Northeast Ohio is a tax-exempt, non-profit organization, incorporated in Cleveland, Ohio. Our mission is to promote and enhance relationships and to improve understanding between the peoples of the US and Japan.
Our Mission is to:
Present educational programs and forums for its membership and the public on social, economic, political and cultural relationships between the United States and Japan.
Provide opportunities for business contacts and workshops/seminars on business related topics.
Sponsor cultural events presenting the visual and performing arts of Japan.
Act as a resource center for information about Japan.
Provide information for Japanese residents and visitors about American life.
Facilitate outreach programs at all levels in a variety of educational and institutional settings.
Present programs relevant to the Japanese-American experience.
In response to the need for information about Japan in Greater Cleveland, the Japan Study Group was formed by the Cleveland Council on World Affairs in 1990, with the eventual goal of forming an independent organization. In 1992, the group incorporated as the Japan Society of Cleveland and in 1994 became a part of the National Association of Japan-America Societies.
We have presented a number of business, cultural and educational programs, such as:
A lecture series on trade relationships between the U.S. and Japan.
An exhibition of Japanese children's art, "Life Images."
A sponsored kiosk at the 2004 International Children's Games.
Seasonal events celebrating traditional Japanese customs.
Conversational Japanese language group activities.
Presentations on Japanese life through literature and film.
Workshops and seminars on Japanese and American business relations.
