2007 Japanese Language and Culture Contest
 Saturday, February 10 9am- 4 pm Frick Fine Arts Language Building University of Pittsurgh campus PLATINUM SPONSOR-- WESTINGHOUSE ELECTRIC COMPANY GOLD SPONSOR - SUMITOMO CORPORTAION OF AMERICA The JASP in partnership with the Asian Studies Center (ASC) at the University of Pittsburgh hosts an annual Japanese language and culture competition for area high school students. In addition to language activities, the event offers various Japanese cultural activities such as tea ceremony demonstrations, koto performances, and instruction about the game of go and origami.
The 2007 Contest will be a memorized speech contest, with a maximum time limit.
A Poster session is open to all Level 1students. Students may chose their own Japan related topic to illustrate clearly and creatively on a poster. The First Place winner will have a visually pleasing and educational poster.
The registration deadline is Friday, January 19th
Maximum time limits: Levels 2 & 3 = 5 minutes Level 4 & 5= 6 minutes Participants should chose from the following topics to prepare and memorize their speech: 1. My most memorable summer vacation 2. This is my family 3. My favorite extracurricular activity 4. My favorite book, piece of music or sport 5. Foods that I enjoy
Scoring based on grammatical accuracy, manner of presentation & pronunciation.
All participating students will receive Certificates. First place students in each level will receive a trophy.
Registration Fee: $10 /student $50 per school. Includes t-shirt, lunch, Rakugo Performance, and reception.
