Member Spotlight: American Eagle Outfitters
American Eagle Outfitters, Inc. (AEO) is built on more than 30 years of customer focus, dedication, and innovation. The company was founded with one store, in Novi, Michigan, in 1977. Today, you see many iterations of the number 77 throughout the clothing, vernacular and imagery - one of the many threads of respect to its rich heritage.  Hence the main address of the company’s global headquarters—77 Hot Metal Street—in Pittsburgh’s historic SouthSide Works. AEO also retains its Distribution Center and Data Center in Warrendale, PA. AEO joined the Japan-America Society of Pennsylvania last year.

American Eagle Outfitters offers high-quality, on-trend clothing at affordable prices through its portfolio of brands: American Eagle for 15 - 25-year-old girls and guys, aerie for the college girl, 77kids for grade-schoolers, and little77 for infants. AE.COM®, the online home of all the brands, ships to 77 countries worldwide. With corporate offices in very distinct locations - Pittsburgh, New York City, Toronto and Hong Kong – and more than 1,000 stores, American Eagle Outfitters has built a distinctive company culture for approximately 30,000 associates.

Over the past few years, the company has pursued an aggressive expansion into the international market through carefully selected franchise partnerships. The first franchise stores opened in the Middle East in 2010. Hong Kong, China, and Russia followed in 2011. Japan is next on the list with stores slated to open in 2012. Japan is a particularly important market, given its millions of fashion-conscious young people. American Eagle Outfitters is increasingly popular among Japanese customers, who know the brand through travels to the U.S. and Canada, as well as online.
Even with its global presence, American Eagle Outfitters is committed to its place in the Pittsburgh community. The American Eagle Outfitters philanthropy program supports dozens of non-profit organizations, as well as provides opportunities for associates to volunteer thousands of hours each year.  Additionally, the company focuses on attracting and retaining young people to the region through college recruiting and other training and hiring programs.
