The JASP is a non-profit organization dedicated to education about Japan and facilitating cultural understanding between the U.S. and Japan. To that end, since 1985, the JASP has provided a range of educational programs, members services, and cultural events for people in Western Pennsylvania. Funded through memberships, fund-raisers, and grants, the Society pursues a balance of activities which includes Educational Outreach programs for students and teachers, Business, Policy and Culture programs, and support for Japanese Performing Arts in the region.

Today, the JASP has reached a plateau from which it can develop a permanent presence in Western Pennsylvania and broaden its efforts to promote U.S.-Japan understanding, exchange, awareness, and goodwill. To support this initiative, the JASP has launched an Endowment Fund to ensure the long-term financial stability of the Society.
