Travel and Tourism JASIG
Past Meetings
Junglecity, a Seattle-based website geared towards the Japanese, has proven
very successful in reaching the Japanese speaking audience; both those
residing in the states and those in Japan who want to learn more about
Seattle. Similar in concept to Citysearch, Junglecity is the largest
Japanese-language site to provide valuable information on tourism-related
activities and accommodations, as well as practical advice on visiting and
living in Seattle. While traditional Japanese tourism has relied on
organized tour groups, many more tourists are coming to Seattle on their own
and doing their own research before they arrive. These independent
travelers are especially increasing with the arrival to Seattle of baseball
superstar, Ichiro. Takumi Ono and Junglecity clients who
have promoted their businesses on this site joined with members for a discussion on the
effectiveness of reaching the Japanese audience in cyberspace.
Baseball, coffee, the perfect blending of nature and technology,
abundantly
fresh food and award winning wines are but a few of the lures bringing
Japanese travelers to Seattle and Washington State. All indications are
for
these figures to rise dramatically as the Japanese economy continues to
recover and Ichiro and Sasaki play for the Seattle Mariners. In this first Travel and Tourism JASIG, Michael Kurtz, Director of
Tourism-Asia at SKCCVB,
Robin Pollard, Director-Washington State Tourism, and Donald Lorentz,
Director-Economic & Trade Developmentat the Port, led a discussion on our
region’s new travel and tourism initiatives in Japan.
