Japanese Language and Culture Visits

Japanese Language and Culture Visits are designed to help motivate American high school students to continue their recently acquired Japanese langage skills by increasing their exposure to Japanese speakers with a total-immersion Japanese language experience.

There are 2 different topics in the presentation, Customs and Shopping. Divided into small groups, students practice speaking Japanese with presenters after reviewing the skills needed for the activity.

Program for Beginners: Customs
Students learn Japanese customs and basic phrases on a visit to a Japanese home.

Program for Intermediates: Shopping
Students have an oppotunity to use their skills in a simulated situation using typical phrases for shopping.

High school visits are usually scheduled between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm on weekdays from September to June. To arrange a visit, please contact the Japan-America Society at 206-374-0180.

At the end of the school year 2004-05, we have brought our program to 1016 students in 45 classrooms at the 12 area high schools listed below:
