Japanese Language and Culture Visits are designed to help motivate American high school students to continue their recently acquired Japanese language skills by increasing their exposure to Japanese speakers with a total-immersion Japanese language experience.
There are 3 different topics in the presentation, Customs, Shopping, and
Restaurant. Divided into small groups, students practice speaking Japanese with presenters after reviewing the skills needed for the activity.
Program for Beginners: Customs
Students learn Japanese customs and basic phrases on a visit to a Japanese home.
Program for Intermediates: Shopping
Students have an opportunity to use their skills in a simulated situation using typical phrases for shopping.
Program for Advanced: Restaurant
Students are taught everything they need to know for dining out in Japan. They
will learn specifics on how to make a reservation by phone and how to order.
High school visits are usually scheduled between 7:30 am and 3:00 pm on
weekdays from September to June. To arrange a visit, please contact the Japan-America Society at 206-374-0180.
