"Executive Women Lunch Series"
Speaker : Phyllis Campbell

The Japan-America Society was honored to welcome Phyllis Campbell, Chairman, Pacific Northwest for JP Morgan Chase who launched our "Executive Women Lunch Series" with a heartfelt presentation.  Ms. Campbell spoke about her personal background in addition to sharing real experiences in her work life which provided valuable advice for the 40 people who attended.  Though the primary target audience was women, her message was equally applicable and meaningful to the men in attendance as well.

The Japan-America Society would like to thank the Global Business Center, University of Washington Foster School of Business for their generous sponsorship and Davis Wright Tremaine LLP for their support in making this program possible.

Japan Young Professionals Group
Networking Event

The Japan Young Professionals Group (JYPG) was pleased to hold our second networking event at Wann Izakaya in Belltown.  It was a fun night of delicious appetizers and interesting people.  JYPG events have proved to be excellent opportunities to meet and network with various young professionals who have an interest in Japan.  Over 80 people attended and many business cards (meishi) were exchanged.  Join us next time and mix it up!

2009 Annual Meeting & Dinner

About 250 members and their guests heard Nicole Piasecki, President, Boeing Japan speak at the 2009 Japan-America Society Annual Meeting & Dinner in the Harbor Dining Room at the Bell Harbor International Conference Center at Pier 66, Seattle.  A new slate of Officers and Directors was nominated by the members present. Dennis Yamashita succeeded Linda Salomon to the position of Chair of the Board of Directors.

 

This year the Japan-America Society was privileged to honor Hiroo Iwamura with the Fourth Annual Thomas S. Foley Award.  Mr. Iwamura was recognized for his many years of leadership in deepening the relationship between the people of Washington State and Japan and for his unwavering support of both communities.  Nominated prior to his sudden passing, the award was given posthumously and received by Nobuko Iwamura on her husband's behalf.

Business Lunch with
Washington State Trade Representatives to Japan

As a part of Washington State Trade Week, the Japan-America Society was pleased to host Shinji Takeuchi and Noriko Ban, Washington State Trade Representatives to Japan.  Their presentation focused on the state of the Japan-Washington State economy and international exports.  Almost 50 people took part in the discussion over lunch and many questions were answered in the Q & A session.  Special thanks to Washington State CTED for their help in making this program possible.

Japan Young Professionals Group
Dr. Ryo Kubota Event

Thank you to everyone who came to our last event at Yama at the Galleria.  This was our first business presentation event and our first event on the Eastside.  Over 40 members came to see Dr. Ryo Kubota of Acucela, Inc. speak about the challenges of entrepreneurship in the United States versus Japan.  It was a fun and informative event with delicious food and great service.  JYPG was thrilled to have the support of so many of our Japan-America Society Board Members that also attended.  Thank you!

Winter Meet & Greet

The Japan-America Society was pleased to hold a Winter Meet & Greet at DragonFish Asian Cafe. JAS Members and Non-Members joined us at a great venue for a very relaxed gathering with friendly people and productive networking. Over 60 people attended and a great time was had by all.

The Japan-America Society would like to give a special thank you to DragonFish Asian Cafe for their support in making this program possible.

Japan Young Professionals Group Shinnenkai

The Japan Young Professionals Group (JYPG) was pleased to hold our 2009 Shinnenkai.  It was an exciting night of delicious appetizers and interesting people.  The event proved to be an excellent opportunity to meet and network with various young professionals who have an interest in Japan.  Over 90 people attended and had a great time!
