US-Japan Future Forum - July 12, 2007

The first official meeting of the US-Japan Future Forum took place on July 12, 2007 with resounding success! Over 35 attendees gathered together to start off the program. Here are some of the highlights:

  • Including Sempai Emeritus, Sempai, and Kohai, over 35 people gathered together. Sam Shepherd, Sempai Emeritus and President of NAJAS welcomed everyone.

  • After brief remarks by Bob Grondine and Barry Hirschfeld, we had three interesting presentations. Sam Shepherd, Sempai Emeritus started out with an update on US-Japan relations. Next, Kathy Matsui, Sempai and Goldman Sachs Managing Director and Chief Japan Strategist gave a fascinating post-shareholder season update. Finally, Craig Will, Kohai and President of Map Motion, K.K. gave an interesting description on his mobile software startup.

  • Thierry Porte, Sempai and President of Shinsei Bank gave an impromptu talk about the importance of what the Future Forum is trying to do and the significant impact the group could have.

  • Finally, Barry Hirschfeld handed out the Sempai-Kohai assignments. Over the next 12 months, Sempai-Kohai pairs alternate visiting each other for dialogue and support at least twice per year and each will report briefly each year on their activities.
